It is understandable that chambers will want to publish details of significant cases. However, in doing so, it is important that any information posted on a website is not only accurate but also reflects the nature of the case. Where objections are raised by a client, or anyone else, about what is reported on a website, it is essential that chambers re-consider carefully the accuracy and content of the information and whether it needs to be amended. The profession should be aware that inaccurate, or biased, reporting of cases on chambers’ websites could amount to a breach of the Code and result in disciplinary action against the individual barrister involved in the case and/or the Head of Chambers.
