A civil claims mediation pilot started at the Manchester Civil Justice Centre, following the recommendation from Lord Justice Briggs. While mediation will not be compulsory, judges will issue orders for mediation to be considered in all fast and multi-track cases, except those involving personal injury or family matters, and parties could be penalised in costs for not considering or using it.
