Department of Public Prosecutions (3 Year Contract)

The post holder is responsible for the management of the Specialist programme of the Department of Public Prosecutions, which involves supervising the work of a team of professionals. The post holder is also responsible for the conduct of criminal proceedings under the direction of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The post holder prosecutes the more complex cases in the Courts, and supervises anti-money laundering and terrorist financing reform. The post holder also conducts Criminal prosecutions in all the Courts of Bermuda and provides advice to the Police, Ministries and other Departments on criminal matters as required. The post holder is also specifically responsible for prosecuting hearings and providing advice in respect of the Proceeds of Crime, Mutual Legal Assistance, Extradition and other related matters in all the Courts of Bermuda as required. Additionally, the post holder performs associated legal and operational duties as required.

Applicants must possess a minimum of ten (10) years relevant post-qualification experience at a senior level, in prosecuting significant criminal litigation as lead or sole counsel at all levels of Court, in courts of unlimited jurisdiction. A substantial portion of this experience must be as a prosecutor in a government legal environment with extensive work in the areas of Extradition, Mutual Legal Assistance and Proceeds of Crime Matters. Additionally, the post requires, at least, five (5) years at a senior management level, with substantial experience managing a team of prosecutors and administrators, preferably in a government environment, along with an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Justice System. The post holder must be a practicing qualified Barrister or Attorney at Law of a Commonwealth Jurisdiction and must be capable of being called to the Bermuda Bar.
