Protector of the Millenium Awards Trust

UnLtd is the UK’s leading supporter of social entrepreneurs. We are looking for a new Protector to oversee the governance of the Millennium Awards Trust – UnLtd is a registered charity and the Trust’s sole trustee.

UnLtd finds inspiring social entrepreneurs with bold solutions to today's challenges. Through funding and support, we help over 300 of them each year realise their potential and create lasting change. Over the past five years, we have made over £18 million in 2,200 grants to over 1,900 social entrepreneurs (over 50% from marginalised and minoritised communities). We have invested £2.9 milllion in 34 social ventures. For every 100 entrepreneurs that we support, 46,000 people benefit and some 2,000 jobs are created every year.

The Millennium Awards Trust was established by the Millennium Commission with a permanent endowment of £100 million of National Lottery funds. The Trust’s Protector has a fiduciary duty to ensure the integrity of the administration of the Trust and the propriety of its procedures. Appointed by the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport to a three-year term, we are looking to identify a suitably qualified individual to succeed the incumbent who is approaching the end of their term.

The Protector must be a qualified barrister, solicitor, or chartered accountant / investment manager with at least five years’ senior experience, and we are looking for an individual who believes in the potential of social entrepreneurs to transform the UK for good.

The role will attract an honorarium of £5,000 and has a time commitment of c.4 hours per quarter. We are accepting applications, via CV and covering letter, until 23.59pm on Sunday 3rd September 2023. Please email hr@unltd.org.uk to obtain a full role specification.
