European Union – Freedom of movement. The Court of Justice of the European Union gave a preliminary ruling, deciding, among other things, that arts 34 and 36 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union should be interpreted as precluding national legislation which restricted access to parallel imports of veterinary medicinal products to wholesale distributors holding the authorisation laid down in art 65 of Directive (EC) 2001/82, as amended, and which, consequently, excluded from access to such imports the livestock farmers wishing to import veterinary medicinal products for the needs of their own livestock farms.
