Legal aid
The two online petitions against the government’s legal aid reforms are garnering huge public support.
As Counsel went to press, the Bar Council/38 Degrees petition showed over 48,600 signatures. Over 91,500 had signed the e-petition, set up by Exeter solicitor Rachel Bentley, which will be referred to the Backbench Business Committee of the House of Commons if it reaches 100,000 signatures.
Eighty-nine MPs have now signed up to an Early Day Motion against the reforms.
