European Union – Rules on competition. The Court of Justice of the European Union dismissed the appeal by the European Commission against the judgment of the General Court of the European Union, by which the General Court had partially annulled the Commission's letters relating to payment, by Total SA and Elf Aquitaine SA (together 'Total') of the fine and default interest payable following Commission Decision C(2006) 2098 final in which the Commission had imposed a fine on Total's subsidiaries (Arkema SA and its subsidiaries, together 'Arkema') jointly and severally for participating in a cartel. Total, as the parent company of Arkema, had been found liable jointly and severally for payment of that fine.
