Sentencing – Contempt of court – Publication of articles about and photographs of individuals arrested in criminal proceedings. High Court of Justiciary: In petitions in which the respondent had admitted contempt of court in respect of articles it had published in a newspaper and on its website relating to two individuals who had appeared on petition at the Sheriff Court, the court imposed a cumulo sentence in relation to both petitions, namely a fine of £80,000, concluding that both of the contempts, relating to very grave charges, were serious in nature, and although the respondent had accepted guilt and tendered an apology the admissions were made late in the day and the apology even later.
